Characters make a huge role in this book. Even if they are Flat or static. every little person makes a huge difference in the way things run in this little town in Maine.
Nora Grey: Main character " I pushed a headband into my hair in lieu of a hairstyle, snatched my backpack off the kitchen counter, and rushed out the door," (Fitzpatrick,32). This quote shows both direct and indirect characterization of Nora. It shows her hairstyles and what her personality is like. She has a rushed, to herself personality.
Dynamic/ Round
Nora is one of our major round and dynamic characters. she is the Main character so she obviously is going to have many layers and many traits. "Was I about to forgive her? Absolutely not," (Fitzpatrick,33). This is a turning point for Nora. she usually has this personality where she's laid back and isn't stuck up. But in this one particular part she has a sudden change of heart and snaps at Marci. this shows that she is round as well as dynamic. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Patch Ciprinao Main character "He stood two inches over six feet tall and had a lean, athletic build that even loose fit jeans and a T-shirt couldn't conceal. The color of his hair gave midnight a run for it's money, with eyes to match. His smile was sexy and warned of trouble," (Fitzpatrick,10) This quote shows direct and indirect characterization of Patch. It physically describes what Patch looks like and then at the end makes metaphors of what his body tone is.
Dynamic/ Round
Patch is a very round and dynamic character. He changes a lot in this book whether it be bad or good. "He nodded once, but the singular focus to his eyes told me his thoughts were elsewhere," (Fitzpatrick, 27). This quote shows both the round and dynamic side to Patch. At this sudden moment, a dynamic change occurs. He is no longer into the interest of Nora. After this incident, he pays no mind as he does to Marci Miller later on. This also shows that he is round. The layers of his thoughts are a character in its self and they have so much meaning and depth to them. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Protagonist and Antagonist There are many different characters in this novel. Protagonist being the good guys. Antagonist being the bad guys. In this particular book that is.
Protagonist In this book, Crescendo , the protagonist is clearly stated at the very beginning. Nora Grey, a 16 year old junior living in main, lives the life of a normal human. That is until her guardian angel, Patch comes along. she really doesn't take an interest in him until he saves her life from falling off of rafters in her own school, 2 months before this book begins. Nora is a main character because, first off she is the main character. Main characters are most of the time, the good guy. A no one has a grudge or hatred to Nora to make her the bad character. At least in her eyes it seems that way.
Another Protagonist would be Scott Parnell. Scott, an old friend of Nora's, moves back to Maine, to live not too far away. But after running into his worst nightmare, The Black Hand, he comes to Nora for advice, hoping she know who this is and why he is back looking for him. Scott could be classified as a protagonist because he doesn't do harm to Nora. He helps her in a sense through the struggles with her boyfriend.
Blythe Grey is a part time protagonist in this book as well. Blythe, is Nora's mother and secrets keeper. Little does Nora know, Blythe, goes against her all the same time, tying up with a fallen angel. Blythe could be classified as a protagonist because she is Nora's mother. She didn't do any harm to Nora in any way... Yet..
Vee Sky, Nora's best friend sense third grade. She stands 6 foot, 3 inches. Her attitude as spunky as a frat party everyday, as Nora would like to put it. She stands at Nora's side through thick in thin. Although Nora may be the antagonist in Vee's head (for keeping secrets of angels in to just herself and other angels) but Vee will always be Nora's best friend and best protagonist.
Antagonist
The main antagonist in this book, would have to be Patch Cipriano. Patch, or Jev, is Nora's Boyfriend of 2 months. He is her guardian and lover after an incident involving Jev saving Nora's life. But that all goes downhill after Jev involves himself with another girl. A girl who happens to be Nora's enemy. He gets caught up in her love life and crush Nora back to her normal feeling of loneliness. He also violates her part of the time as well. He is rude and unaware to her simplistic ways. He invades her dreams through mind power, literally. He does harm to the main character, there for making him the biggest antagonist.
The second biggest antagonist is Rixon. He never has a last name mentioned but he is a complete jerk. He's all sweet in the beginning, being Vee's boyfriend and all. But he is out for blood. he is out to kill Nora so her biological father can become human. But in the end, Scott, ends up saving Nora's life and Rixon, being immortal, is chained in the depths of hell. Now although Rixon did try to harm her, Patch seemed to have more of an affect on her. But Rixon does take a top on the antagonist list.
Last but not least the Nephil race. This race is all that Nora is against. This race killed her adoptive dad and invaded her life. They do harm to her in no other way than anyone else. They want to kill her ancestors and all that she lives for. They take the number three spot for most vileness spot.
